Keep Current Services Available… Onsite or Remote

As IBM continues to strengthen the iSeries operating System functionality, IBM periodically issues new OS versions and releases. MSSi has perfected the technique of upgrading your OS remotely in most customer environments. Let us discuss this option with you to reduce your overall expense and time

The World Just Got A Little Smaller

More and more services are being delivered remotely in all facets of our culture. Remote iSeries Support is a WIN/WIN solution by offering more timely results while reducing expenses for our customers. iSeries functionality has developed to the point that experienced technicians can deliver most services remotely including; operational support, systems management, problem determination, performance management, version/release upgrades, PTF management, and even remote migration support to new or upgraded systems. Qualifying for remote iSeries support requires the following:

  • Remote secured access to your network or system(s) (VPN, WebEx, VNC, Internet access, etc.)
  • Profile and password access on your system(s) and console, with profile authorities sufficient to perform the support tasks
  • OpsConsole or HMC (twinax console significantly limits remote support)

We’re In Your Corner

Should a non-application related problem be encountered, MSSi will begin system level problem determination and advise you how to correct or work around the problem. If necessary, MSSi will act as your advocate to IBM Rochester Support to own, interpret, diagnose, and resolve issues as directed by IBM support. A valid IBM Software Maintenance Agreement (SWMA) is required for this support.

What is the difference between HOT, WARM and COLD disaster recovery strategies?

  • How much data will I lose in case of an unplanned system outage?
  • How long will it take to get my iSeries back into service?
  • How long can your business afford for your iSeries and associated servers to be out of service?
  • How do you know if you are prepared for a catastrophic failure of hardware or facility?

MSSi will work with you to tailor a DR strategy that is specific to your business requirements and budget. MSSi can facilitate a structured discussion with your management to address disaster recovery topics and offer solutions to meet your specific needs.

Cover Your Assets

High availability is closely related to Disaster Recovery strategies. Typically HA requires a “backup system” that is periodically (or immediately) refreshed to act as a “fall-back” system for use in planned or unplanned primary system outages. MSSi can offer a variety of HA options and solutions; including software replication (Mimix or iTera) or hardware replication (Power HA, SAN replication, or independent ASP).

21st Century Solutions for an Age Old Problem

  • Are you backing up the right things?
  • How often do you back it up?
  • How do I use my backup to recover from system or application problems?
  • Can you recover your system in the case of a catastrophic failure of the hardware or your facility?

MSSi will work with you to examine your current backup and recovery strategy and if necessary offer advice to make your strategy more effective for your particular needs. MSSi can assist in developing and implementing revised strategies.

Your systems information at your finger tips.

MSSi will immediately become familiar with your system configurations, systems plans, and prepare documentation necessary for a long-term remote support relationship. Having this information readily available will allow MSSi staff to become productive in less time when issues arise. This documentation will be periodically reviewed and updated as necessary, and is available to you for your internal reference, management level discussions, and audits.

The iTeam is Your Team

When your operations staff encounters issues, problems, or questions with which they are not prepared to overcome, MSSi will quickly assist with these operational issues by remotely experiencing the issues first hand, possibly while the issue is occurring.

MSSi operational support can provide your staff with a second-level of support when their “usual” second-level support is not available.

  • Why is my system running slow?
  • Am I using my iSeries system resources (CPU, Memory, DASD, etc.) efficiently?

MSSi can examine your system resources to determine if these resources are being utilized effectively, or determine that some resources are insufficient to meet the system workload.

If possible, MSSi will adjust performance settings to maximize system resources based on your particular application mix. MSSi can assist with some application performance issues to the extent that MSSi may advise on the best course of action to improve performance.

Program Temporary Fixes, Updates On Demand

Most customer environments should have Cumulative and Group PTFs applied every 6-9 months (or less).

MSSi can manage this process for you remotely, saving you time and expense. MSSi can also apply specific PTFs to address problems or functionality issues.

Protection with 22 world-class data centers, supported by experts and always accessible.
